Be Radiant with the 2014 Color of the Year!

If you started to drive a Volvo, suddenly you see Volvos wherever you go.  You didn’t seem to notice them before, but now that you are driving one, you are much more mindful of these particular cars.  The same has rang true for me with Pantone “Color of the Year”.  Let me explain…

…if you were to say the word “Pantone” to me before my husband started art school, I would not know what you were talking about. However, now that I understand what this word means and how it relates to me, I want to share this with so many people.  Pantone is a company that known for it’s Pantone Matching System (PMS) to represent colors to a variety of industries, mainly printing, but we can communicate colors to so many just using their system.  Each color is assigned a different number & there are 1,140 color spots in their system.

In addition to regulate colors between designers all over the world, Pantone will work with designers to forecast “Colors of the Year” which will be reflected in fashion, interior design, textiles, WEDDINGS…all sorts of places.  Last year, the Color of the Year was Emerald, or 17-4651.  Below we feature a sample of 2013’s color:

COTY 13

Since we are at the beginning of the new year, we want to fill you all in on Pantone’s newest choice for 2014 which is “Radiant Orchid” or 18-3224.  See this lovely hue below:

Now that we have shown you this color, watch, just as you had started to see the car you are currently driving everywhere, you will start to see this color everywhere, too!  Here’s a few pics collected of Radiant Orchid:

Why is this the “Color of the Year”?  How is this color chosen?  Click here for a video that explains this process.

In addition to the Color of the Year, Pantone also chooses seasonal colors in a Fashion Report for both women and men that will accent the color of the year.  Again, these are all reflected in Fashion Weeks all over the world.  This just goes to show you how color affects each and every branch of the art and design world. Executive Director of the Pantone Color Institute, Leatrice Eiserman, explains the Women’s Spring 2014 Fashion Report.

…of course we haven’t forgot our guys!  Here’s the men’s Fashion Report:

Halloween with Team Veil

We’re going to take a quick break with our trends posts to chat about one of our favorite holidays…HALLOWEEN!! We love any chance to get to dress up and do designs that we normally wouldn’t get the chance to do on an everyday basis….so we are here to show you some potential ideas for awesome hair and makeup to compliment your costumes!  Team Veil would love to get the opportunity to help you to win that costume contest that you’ll be attending this year!

All you'll need to complete this look is a little red dress and red heels! BOOP BOOP DEE DOOP!

All you’ll need to complete this look is a little red dress and red heels! BOOP BOOP DEE DOOP!

day of the dead

Día de Muertos…you can pair this a colorful get up or all black…the hair and makeup are a “dead” give away to this costume!

flapper

This past May Baz Luhrmann gave us a gem of a film recreating F. Scott Fitzgerald’s masterpiece, The Great Gatsby. That blazed the trail for an amazing halloween costume! Get a drop waisted dress and some long pearls, you’re bound to be a hit at any party!

lucy

You’ll be unmistakeable at any halloween gathering with classic Lucy hair and makeup. Don’t be discouraged if you don’t have the fiery color she had, we can style your hair the same, people will still get the picture. (…we could always color it for you!!) 🙂 If you can not find her polka dot dress, any vintage dress will do.

pretty zombie

Here’s the glamorous side of spooky! It’s like Walking Dead meets Vogue magazine. A tattered thrift store dress would look awesome with this look.

sandy

Let your inner bad girl out with Sandy from Grease. Classic makeup paired with big curly hair and you’ll be the one that they want!! Pair this look with form fitting black pants and off the shoulder black top, don’t forget the heels and the cig! (haha for prop purposes, of course!)

Fall into Trends with Team Veil: #2 Faux Side Bangs

Who says you have to commit?  If you’re the “try it before I buy it” kinda gal, then this is the trend for you.  Keep your look  fresh and new but still keep your length! Here are a few pics of this ‘do on the runways for fall 2013:

Dries van Noten Fall / /Winter 2013-2014

Dries van Noten
Fall / /Winter 2013-2014

As you can see in the set of pictures above, hair is combed across the forehead, in the direction that you normally wear your hair, only a much deeper part.  (If you rock the middle part, it’s you choice, pick a side). You can then use a clip to hold the hair into place.

Rag and Bone Fall:Winter 2013

Fall:Winter 2013

Gently pull the hair back towards the opposite side than where it is clipped.  This will allow the hair to drape over your forehead. The hair is then tucked behind the ear and bobby pinned.  (Try criss crossing the pins, it will hold more secure).

Reem Acra Fall/Winter 2013 (BTW we LOVE this high contrast look, its so striking! Wanna try it? Let's chat!!)

…..Sound a little to complicated? Let us show you how to turn your hair into a new design and keep you en vogue through out the fall / winter seasons!  Reserve time today with any of our designers, we would be happy to give you a demo, on the house!

For the week we will be posting on some of our favorite (and not so favorite) fall trends 2013 with hair, makeup, clothing and accessories….look for them daily and share your thoughts on any and all!

The Low Ponytail:

Try using a natural bristle brush when creating this design.  A little pomade along with that brush and a quick spray, you’re on your way to being right on the money.  Come into Veil Studios today and let us show you how to recreate some of these looks!  It’s Friday, treat yourself!

SURF’S UP!!

Team Veil joined up with ECSC360 and had an action packed weekend!  We’re just a few blocks from the oceanfront, so what better way to celebrate ECSC weekend then to set up shop on the beach and keep ladies looking FRESH even on the BEACH!

The events started with four hula hooping hotties getting hair and makeup done at our studio.  They then performed on the main stage for the COLOR ME RAD dance party.  What a cool was for us to spend our day, getting to be super creative and really step out of the box!

Maryellen, one of our team members at the studio made this killer collage with pics from prepping the models for the dance party!

We ordered a custom paint job on an old surf board from a local artist, Igor’s Custom Signs and Stripes .  Let me tell you, he knocked it out of the park!  What a talented guy.  He made time for us, even though he was rocking out at the tattoo convention the whole weekend before.  (He won 3rd place for best booth BTW!!) He visited our studio, we showed him a few things for inspiration and BOOM! He delivered us a board that was designed FAR beyond our expectations!

Designed and painted by the very talented Igor's Custom Signs and Stripes.

The rest of the weekend, we were right on the beach hooking all the dudes and dudettes up with quickie looks….braids, bronzer and lip gloss touch ups….our most popular treat to the crowd was a pop of color in their hair with Kevin Murphy’s COLOR.BUG hair chalk!  We had a line forming in front of our tent!!

Here's some of the kiddos getting a little pep in their step with Kevin Murphy COLOR.BUG! Check out Morgan, another team member, rocking out at the tent!

The weekend was full of sunshine, team work, smiles and most of all, spreading confidence  to everyone we saw.  This is what Veil Studios is all about and that is why we all love what we do!

Lovely Rita

After shot of our bride, Rita and her mother.

After shot of our bride, Rita and her mother.

Here we are featuring a heartwarming story about Rita, one of our brides from June 22, 2013.  Our bride’s mother AND her future mother in law are both battling breast cancer.  Her fiancé’s mom was too under the weather to attend the pre wedding pampering, but Rita’s mom braved the day with full force!

You see, Rita’s mother has been going through treatment for a little over a year, and has not seen herself with hair, eyebrows or eyelashes in about the same amount of time.  That’s when we come into the picture. Liz Alfier not only took care of our beautiful bride, but was able to give her mom a makeup application that will be in pictures for generations.  The moment that Rita’s mother looked into the mirror after Liz finished her makeup, she cried tears of joy! (good thing we use waterproof EVERYTHING!)

She felt beautiful and confident.  We are all in this industry for that very reason.  We love being a part of such a special milestone in people’s lives.  Let these lady’s story cast inspiration, determination and love into your own lives!

Matt Mills One Fight Fund

Matt Mills One Fight Fund, sponsored by behind the Veil Studio and CP Shuckers.

Matt was taken from us August 6th, 2011 with 30 others on the Chinook helicopter that went down in the Wardak region of Afghanistan. He and his brothers gave their lives selflessly so we can live free.

Matt’s wife, Keri, started this fund to help support families who may be devestated by the loss of a family member. Her hope is to have funds available immediately to take care of all household expenditures for the first 90 days after tragedy strikes. When devastation happens, its a fight to stay afloat, and the Matt Mills One Fight Fund was built so that families don’t have to fight alone.
